Taking data for the trip...

Our departure for Munich (München) is tomorrow at 4pm! Time to make our luggage...

Before the more conventional toothbrushes, clothes and foodstuff, we needed to prepare our "computer" luggages. Data is of course the primary target for this, so we bought a Vantec NextStar 3 external cases to make our 250G SATA drive portable.

However, once when testing that everything was working with the MacBookPro and IBM ThinkPad, we found out that it could not recognize the NTFS drive because it is "dynamic". There is no official way to change a dynamic NTFS drive to a basic one. However, after some research I found a tip on how to do this by changing an hex value from 42 to 07 in the first sector of the drive using dskprobe.exe and now everything first fine.

Next step was to add write support to the otherwise read-only support in MacOS X. This is accomplished by adding NTFS-3g (now officially 1.0!) to MacOS X...
